The difference between a great custom clothing experience and an expensive disappointment is almost always the conversation before you pay the deposit.

What outfit types do you specialize in?
Specialization matters. A designer who mostly makes Ankara casualwear may not be the right fit for a beaded bridal gown, even if they're skilled.
Can I see three finished outfits similar to what I want?
Ask for photos of completed work in your category — not sketches, not fabric flat-lays. The finishing on the inside of a garment tells you more than the front.
What is your full price, itemized?
A trustworthy quote breaks out fabric, labor, extras (beading, embroidery, lining), and delivery. Round-number quotes with no breakdown often grow later.
What deposit do you require and when is the balance due?
50% deposit and 50% on final fitting is the norm. Anyone asking for 100% upfront is a risk.
What is your realistic timeline for this outfit?
Custom takes weeks. Get the fitting schedule and final delivery date in writing before you pay.
How many fittings are included?
Most bridal and formal outfits need 2–3 fittings. Confirm how many are covered in the base price and what an extra fitting costs.
How do you take measurements if I'm not local?
Video-guided measurement is standard for remote clients. A good designer will send a measurement sheet and walk you through each one.
What fabric are you sourcing, and can I see a sample?
Fabric drives fit and drape. Ask for a swatch (or a clear photo) before production starts.
What happens if the outfit doesn't fit on final delivery?
Get the alterations policy in writing: what's free, what's charged, and how long it takes.
How many revisions are included?
Two rounds of revisions is a reasonable default. Beyond that, ask what each additional round costs.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Deposits on custom work are usually non-refundable once fabric is cut. Confirm the exact cut-off before you pay.
Do you ship, and who covers customs or duties?
Ship costs vary by country. Clarify who pays customs, especially for international orders.
How will we communicate — WhatsApp, email, in-app?
Pick one channel and stick to it so nothing gets lost across platforms.
Can I get a written contract or booking confirmation?
Even a short one-page confirmation of price, timeline, and fittings protects both sides.
Who owns the design once it's made?
For most custom orders, the client owns the finished outfit but the designer retains rights to their pattern. Confirm if it matters to you.
